国际英语新闻:Parcel deliveries to reach new high for "Single's Day"
SHANGHAI, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The number of parcels to be delivered during November's "Single's Day" shopping bonanza is likely to reach a new high, experts say.
According to the predictions of China Express Association, the number of packages to be delivered during the world's largest online shopping festival is likely to surpass 1 billion, up 35 percent year on year.
Single's Day on Nov. 11 has grown into the Chinese version of "Cyber Monday," a day of online shopping deals on the Monday after Thanksgiving in the United States.
This year, about 2.68 million couriers will work to deliver the parcels, according to logistics company Cainiao under China's e-commerce powerhouse Alibaba.
Last year, Alibaba smashed sales records when revenue for its Tmall marketplace totaled 91.2 billion yuan (13.6 billion U.S. dollars), up 60 percent from 2014.
