国际英语新闻:About 85 percent Americans think U.S. now more divided than before: poll
WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- About 85 percent of U.S. citizens think their country is now more divided than previous years, and more than half would like the incoming administration to mend the fence, revealed a poll released on Sunday.
According to the cnn/ORC poll, the number who feared division has reached its highest point since 2000, and it is also the first time the number topped 80 percent.
The survey, with 1,003 samples, also questioned whether the Trump administration, coupled with a Republican-held Congress, should incorporate Democratic policies. About 79 percent said yes, while 16 percent said no.
Referring to the election result, in which Republican Donald Trump won the electoral vote but lost the popular vote, 53 percent of surveyed said he should try to attract the support of those who voted against him, while 40 percent said he only have his supporters in mind.
Trump claimed victory to the Nov. 8 presidential election, but controversy surrounding the election has not yet ended.
Green Party candidate Jill Stein has called for a recount in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, an effort backed by the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign.
