国际英语新闻:Indian court acquits former French diplomat accused of raping 3-year-old daughter
NEW DELHI, April 19 (Xinhua) -- A local court in India's southern state of Karnataka Wednesday acquitted former French diplomat Pascal Mazurier, accused of raping his three-year-old daughter, officials said.
The court said there was no enough evidence to convict the ex-diplomat.
"I am very happy with the verdict. I am a loving father. I am looking forward to seeing my children back in France. It has been a long battle," Mazurier told media after his acquittal.
The case against Mazurier was registered in June 2012 after his wife Suja Jones approached police in Bengaluru accusing her husband of rapping their daughter.
Mazurier was then the deputy head of chancery in the consulate of France in Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka.
Mazurier had spent four months in jail and was later released on bail.
