国际英语新闻:Macron reaffirms disagreement with U.S. Jerusalem decision
PARIS, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron has recalled that France disapproved the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move its embassy there.
Macron made the remarks in a telephone meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the French presidency said in a press release on Sunday.
"France has reaffirmed its commitment to international law and respect for UN Security Council resolutions, and Jerusalem is destined to be the capital of two states, Israel and Palestine, in ways that it will be up to the Palestinians and Israelis to define by negotiation," said the release.
Macron also stressed the need to "avoid negative repercussions throughout the region and to contribute to appeasement... to restore prospects for peace," it added.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced earlier this week that he acknowledged Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and decided to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
