国际英语新闻:Constitutional issues internal matter of respective countries: British PM
WARSAW, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Constitutional issues are and should remain an internal matter for the countries they concern, British Prime Minister Theresa May said here on Thursday, referring to the triggering of Article 7 of the EU Treaty against Poland.
"These constitutional issues are normally, and should be primarily a matter for the individual country concerned," said May during a joint press conference with her Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki following Polish-British intergovernmental consultations in Warsaw.
May added she also welcomed "the fact the PM Morawiecki has indicated that he will be speaking with the European Commission(EC) and I hope that that will lead to a satisfactory resolution."
Morawiecki, on his part, stressed that Poland's dispute with the EC should have no impact on Brexit negotiations. "I do not think that the present dispute has any impact on vital issue such as Brexit as well as on many other questions, including defence cooperation, which we want to develop with our partners," said the Polish prime minister.
May was officially welcomed by Marowiecki at the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw on Thursday.
May and Morawiecki also discussed defence, security, and cooperation in the NATO. The prime ministers witnessed British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson and Polish Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz sign a defence and security cooperation agreement between two countries.
