国际英语新闻:Saudi Arabia intercepts missile fired towards border city Jazan
RIYADH, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabian air forces intercepted on Wednesday a ballistic missile shot from Yemen towards border city Jazan, local media Al Arabiya reported.
The spokesperson of the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthis in Yemen, Turki Al Maliki said that the missile was fired from Saada province in Yemen at 3:46 a.m. local time (0046 GMT) on Wednesday.
He renewed his country's accusations towards Iran of standing behind the Houthi militias by supplying them with weapons and missiles.
Launching ballistic missiles towards densely populated cities and villages breaches international humanitarian law, he stressed.
Jazan and other border cities are frequently targeted by missile and projectile attacks. While most of them are intercepted without causalities or damages reported, on June 9, three civilians died in Jazan in a projectile attack.
Saudi Arabia has been leading other Arab countries in a war against Houthis in Yemen in support of the exiled government for the last three years.
Yemeni civilians are the most affected by the long war with thousands of deaths because of airstrikes, clashes between armed groups and poor living conditions.
