国际英语新闻:Russia, Turkey, Iran seek quick start of work at Syrian constitutional committee
MOSCOW, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Russia, Turkey and Iran on Tuesday agreed to continue joint efforts on facilitating the work of Syria's constitutional committee and promoting the political settlement in the war-torn country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Representatives from the three Syrian ceasefire guarantor states discussed the current situation and recent developments in Syria at an international meeting held in the Russian city of Sochi on Monday and Tuesday, according to the final statement published on the ministry's website.
"The parties would continue joint efforts aimed at advancing the Syrian-led and Syrian-owned process of the political settlement in order to create conditions to facilitate the beginning of the Constitutional Committee's work in Geneva as soon as possible consistent with the decisions of the Congress of the Syrian National Dialogue in Sochi and the UN Security Council resolution 2254," the statement said.
The constitutional committee dedicated to promoting a constitutional reform in Syria was created at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress held in January in Sochi.
The participants also had "useful consultations" with the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Tuesday and agreed with him to hold the next round of consultations in Geneva in September, the statement said.
The parties reaffirmed their determination to fight terrorism in Syria in order to ultimately eliminate all terrorist organizations including the Islamic States (IS) and Nusra Front and individuals associated with them.
They also called upon the international community to send more humanitarian aid to Syria and help create necessary conditions for the safe return of Syrian refugees.
The two-day international meeting, the 10th round of negotiations on the Syrian problem in the Astana format, was also attended by the Syrian government, the Syrian opposition and the United Nations.
The next high-level international meeting on Syria will be held in November, according to the statement.
