国际英语新闻:Anti-rocket Iron Dome system deployed in central Israel amid rising tension on borders
JERUSALEM, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army said on Thursday that an anti-rocket Iron Dome defense system has been deployed in the center of the country amid rising tension on Israel's northern and southern borders.
The battery was deployed in Gush Dan, the entire metropolitan area of Tel Aviv, a military official said on condition of anonymity.
The Iron Dome batteries were also deployed in southern Israel to fortify other anti-rocket batteries in the region.
The move came two days after the Syrian ambassador to the United Nations warned that Damascus could attack the Ben Gurion Airport outside Tel Aviv if the international body did not put an end to the repeated Israeli deadly airstrikes in the war-torn country.
On Monday, Israel claimed responsibility for a series of airstrikes on Iranian targets in Syria and threatened to carry out more.
