国际英语新闻:Czech PM calls on NATO to play bigger role in fighting against terrorism
PRAGUE, March 12 (Xinhua ) -- NATO should focus on fighting against terrorism now more than ever as it poses a major threat, said Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis Tuesday at a conference marking the 20th anniversary of the Czech accession to the military alliance.
"Personally, I would wish for the alliance to play an even greater part in fighting terrorism than it currently plays," said Babis, "NATO should be even more active in dismantling terrorist organizations which threaten our safety and our way of life."
He said it was a strategic mistake that NATO was not more active in fighting against the Islamic State.
Babis repeated Czech commitment to spend 2 percent of the country's GDP on defense by 2024, adding that since 2015, the country's defense spending has been increasing every year and the trend would continue.
