LONDON, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A sport popular centuries ago in medieval Britain returns Saturday to one of Scotland's most stunning palaces.
Noble knights on horseback and in full body armour are to battle it out in a spectacular jousting contest at Linlithgow Palace, once the playground home of Scottish monarchs in the 1400s.
The palace, 24 kilometers west of capital Edinburgh, is staging two days of jousting on Saturday and Sunday.
Visitors will be able to witness fearless knights battle it out in a daring display of skill and horsemanship, just as they did hundreds of years ago.
"Visitors can explore the sights and sounds of medieval life, from food and clothes to heraldry to armour, in the medieval encampment while enjoying music and watching in awe as jesters perform acrobatic stunts," said organisers Historic Environment Scotland (HES)
There will also archery shoots using one of the main medieval weapons, bows and arrows. and see falcons flying overhead. Kids can even have a go at junior jousting to triumph over the angry knight.
Gillian Urquhart from organisers HES, said: "Spectacular jousting is one of our best loved family-friendly events. With a colorful line-up of daring competitors and their noble steeds, we're looking forward to an exciting weekend celebrating this iconic medieval sport."
Linlithgow Palace is one of over 70 staffed HES attractions set in magnificent grounds by Linlithgow Loch. As a royal residence it was the pleasure palace of Stewart kings and queens, and is famous as the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.
