国际英语新闻:Palestine says halting agreements with Israel won't harm Palestinians
RAMALLAH, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Bassam Salhi, a member of the Palestinian committee mandated to halt agreements with Israel, said on Sunday that the steps to be taken will not harm Palestinians.
"The committee's work to stop abiding by agreements (with Israel) will be implemented with carefully studied steps," Salhi, also a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) executive committee, told the official radio station voice of Palestine.
The committee will deal with the issues in a way that avoids any direct harm to the Palestinians, he added.
The Palestinian strategy is based on "confronting the occupation by enhancing popular resistance and steadfastness of the Palestinians and working on ending the division once and for all," the Palestinian official noted.
A day earlier, the official Palestinian new agency WAFA reported that the committee appointed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to halt agreements with Israel was set to hold a meeting to lay out the mechanisms to implement the decision.
Last month, Abbas declared that the Palestinian leadership decided to stop abiding by the signed agreements between PLO and Israel, in the wake of the massive house demolition in East Jerusalem's town of Sur Baher, the first such move in Area (A) which should be under Palestinian control as per the 1993 interim Oslo accords.
