国际英语新闻:Brazilian gov't announces campaign to boost retail sales
RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian government announced on Tuesday a 10-day campaign to boost retail sales in the country.
The campaign was dubbed "Brazil Week," on the occasion of Brazil's Independence Day on Sept. 7. A total of 4,680 companies will offer special discounts on products and services during the campaign on Sept. 6-15, according to the government.
"This is the moment in which we are finding the way to our flag's colors and our motto 'Order and Progress.' Brazil will leave its problems behind and we will make a different country together," Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said.
The campaign is a move to help boost retail sales in a month that traditionally has no special shopping occasions, said Presidential Communications Secretary Fabio Wajngarten.
"A month in which there are no important dates for retail will now have a date for commerce and tourism," Wajngarten said.
Brazil's economy grew 0.4 percent from the previous quarter and 1 percent from a year ago, according to figures released Thursday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics.
Bolsonaro then said on Friday that the country's economy is recovering, but the recuperation will be slow.
