国际英语新闻:Libya's eastern-based army kills over 90 of UN-backed gov't forces
TRIPOLI, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The eastern-based army of Libya on Sunday announced killing more than 90 members of the rival UN-backed government's forces in battles and airstrikes during the past two days.
"The death toll of the militias (UN-backed government's forces) exceeded 90 and more than 150 were injured, as a result of airstrikes and direct clashes. Most of those casualties are from the city of Misurata," the eastern-based army's information office said in a statement.
It noted that the airstrikes against the UN-backed government's forces will continue in all of the fighting areas, adding that a convoy of military vehicles has been targeted near Misurata, some 200 km east of the capital Tripoli.
A vicious war between the eastern-based army and the UN-backed government's forces erupted more than five months ago over the control of Tripoli.
The war has claimed thousands of lives and displaced almost 120,000 civilians. It also affected nearly all basic public services in the capital, including healthcare, education, water supply, and public electricity network.
The 2011 uprising that toppled the late leader Muammar Gaddafi created a state of chaos, insecurity and political instability in Libya.
