国际英语新闻:Libya's UN-backed gov't forces launch airstrikes on eastern-based army in southern Tripoli
TRIPOLI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Forces of Libya's UN-backed government on Thursday launched 14 airstrikes on the rival eastern-based army in southern Tripoli.
"The air force carried out 14 airstrikes on position of Haftar's militias (army) in southern Tripoli, destroying ammunition stores and military vehicles," the spokesman of the UN-backed government's forces Mohamed Gununo said in a statement.
The statement said that the airstrikes also destroyed operation chambers and fortifications of the eastern-based army.
The statement revealed no details about possible casualties.
The eastern-based army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has been leading a military campaign since early April against the UN-backed government in and around Tripoli.
Thousands have been killed and injured in the fighting so far, and almost 120,000 civilians fled their homes away from the violence.
Libya has been plagued by political instability and escalating violence, ever since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
