国际英语新闻:Sudanese army accuses armed group in Darfur of violating cease-fire
KHARTOUM, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese army on Sunday accused an armed group in Darfur region of violating the cease-fire declared by Sudan's government, according to the army's statement.
"On Oct. 17, forces of the Sudan's Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Abdul-Wahid Nur attacked positions of our forces at Brobas area, some 8 km northeast of Kara area in Darfur," said the Sudanese army in a statement on Sunday.
"Our forces exchanged fire with the attackers and repulsed them," added the statement.
It went on saying that "on Oct. 18, the forces of Abdul-Wahid Nur attacked Kadnir area, east of Jebel Marra, where fire was exchanged with the attackers before they were repulsed."
The Sudanese army further reiterated its commitment to the recently declared cease-fire, pointing out that the Sudanese army has shown goodwill gestures by releasing 21 prisoners from the SLM led by Abdul-Wahid Nur, the statement said.
However, all these efforts have not been taken into consideration but greeted with hostile measures that are not consistent with the aspirations of the Sudanese people, it added.
The Sudanese army stressed in its statement that continuation of hostile acts would not contribute to stability and peace, reiterating its ability to decisively respond to any violations committed against its forces.
On Oct. 16, Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan issued a constitutional decree declaring cease-fire in all parts of Sudan.
