国际英语新闻:Indian capital city chief minister lauds people for winning battle against dengue
NEW DELHI, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Chief Minister of Indian capital city New Delhi Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday lauded residents for their efforts in what he described the battle against dengue.
"Today I want to congratulate people of Delhi. Ten weeks ago we all started a campaign against dengue that we have won together," Kejriwal in a video message posted on twitter said.
"In 2015, Delhi reported over 15,000 cases of dengue, out of which 60 deaths took place. This year less than 1,100 cases of dengue were recorded and no deaths have been reported."
Kejriwal said he was proud of people living in Delhi and hoped such campaigns should be carried out not only in other states of the country but across the world.
"There are many dengue-affected places. I hope that such campaigns are run worldwide," he said.
The local government in Delhi on the first day of September initiated a campaign titled "10-hafte, 10-baje, 10-minute" (for 10 weeks, at 10 o' clock, for 10 minutes) urging residents to look for stagnant water in and around their homes for 10 minutes every Sunday and dispose it off to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
