国际英语新闻:Avalanche kills 1 person in ski resort in Northern California
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- A skier was killed and another severely injured Friday in an early morning avalanche at a Lake Tahoe ski resort in Northern California, police said.
The Placer County Sheriff's Office in North Auburn, California, confirmed that 34-year-old Cole Comstock from Blairsden, a census-designated place in Plumas County, Northern California, was killed in the avalanche that occurred at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort in Lake Tahoe.
The Sheriff's Office said search has been called off and there were no further victims, except for the one fatality and the second skier who suffered serious injuries.
"Search has been stopped. We believe all victims have been recovered at #AlpineMeadows," it tweeted.
Local media said the injured man was transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee to receive surgery for severe lower-body injuries.
A fierce winter storm swept the Tahoe area on Thursday and dumped 25 inches (about 0.63 meters) of snow on the Squaw Valley area, northeast of California capital Sacramento.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning and an Avalanche Watch for the Lake Tahoe area on Thursday.
