FRANKFURT, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- A car crashed into a carnival crowd in the western German town of Volkmarsen on Monday afternoon, causing several injuries, including children, local police said on twitter.
The driver, a 29-year-old German citizen, deliberately drove into the crowd, German media quoted the police as saying. The driver was arrested, but his motives were unclear at this stage, the police said.
Monday marks the highlight of Germany's carnival season, known as the Rose Monday. Local police from the state of Hesse announced on Twitter that all carnival parades in the state have been canceled as a precautionary measure.
Volkmarsen is a small town with a population of about 6,800.
