国际英语新闻:Egypt's president urges Lebanese people for unity after Beirut explosion
CAIRO, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi urged on Sunday the Lebanese people to unite and avoid disputes and conflicts after the recent massive explosion that took place in Beirut, the Egyptian presidency said.
Sisi's remarks came during an international donor conference held online, co-organized by the United Nations and French President Emmanuel Macron and attended by several world leaders.
During the conference, Sisi called on the Lebanese people to "distance their country from regional disputes and conflicts and focus their efforts on strengthening the Lebanese national institutions," according to the statement.
He also urged the Lebanese officials to meet the aspirations of their people by implementing "inevitable economic reforms that cannot be postponed," stressing Egypt's solidarity with and continuous aid to Lebanon during the crisis.
The massive blast that took place in Beirut's port area on Tuesday left more than 150 people dead and thousands of others wounded.
Egypt has sent so far two planes loaded with medical supplies and foodstuff to Lebanon to help the Middle Eastern country face the aftermath of the tragic explosion.
An Egyptian military field hospital has also been established in Beirut to provide medical care to those injured in the blast.
"Egypt is ready to provide all forms of support through more necessary medical and relief assistance to Lebanon in this regard," Sisi told the international online conference.
