TASHKENT, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan is committed to holding its next presidential election in 2021 in line with national laws and international democratic principles, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said Tuesday.
"We will continue to work on the implementation into national legislation and practice of the recommendations of the international observers (made) at the last election," Mirziyoyev said in his annual address to the parliament.
He expressed confidence that the upcoming political campaign will demonstrate the steady growth of political and legal culture among the population.
According to Uzbekistan's laws, presidential elections are held every five years.
Since Mirziyoyev took office in 2016, Uzbekistan has taken a series of measures to open up the country and promote economic and social reforms, including the liberalization of its judicial system.
