欧美文化:Iran accuses U.S. of using NGOs for "meddlesome" ends
TEHRAN, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, on Monday accused the United States of using so-called non-governmental organizations (NGOs) abroad to interfere in other countries' internal affairs.
Baghaei made the remarks at a weekly press conference when asked to comment on a recent U.S. funding freeze announcement.
With "meddlesome" approaches, different U.S. administrations provided considerable amounts of money to opposition groups, "or groups that were called opposition, but in practice worked towards (the implementation of) U.S. policies in different countries," said Baghaei.
He added that different U.S. administrations have used the tool of foreign aid over the past decades to interfere in other countries' internal affairs and cause division and sedition.
On Jan. 20, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid, which orders a 90-day pause in the country's "foreign development assistance."
