沪杭高铁开通:团队游性价比不高
High-speed trains will cut travel time between Shanghai, its neighboring cities, and many scenic spots. This might seem to like a great venture for travel agencies, but most are saying they are not going along for the ride.
Some travel agencies in Shanghai say they are not planning to organize group tours on the high-speed trains because tourists will still prefer to use other modes of transport.
Li Tiemin, President of Sal Tour said "If the tourists take a bus to Hangzhou, they have to pay only 40 yuan per person. If they take the high-speed trains, 80 yuan will be cost, and they have to take a bus to the railway station first."
Travel agencies are still preferring the bus to the train when they take tourists to nearby places. Analysts say that although the high-speed railway might not be the first choice for short distances, it will boost regional tourism in the long run.
Sun Zhang, Professor of Tongji University said "High-speed trains will make travel more convenient. The increasing number of tourists will also boost the local economy."
China is rapidly improving its railway system amid increased demand on its transportation system. The country plans to build 42 high-speed passenger rail lines by the year 2012.
