耶路撒冷华灯：第三届年度华灯节

Jerusalem is one of the world's oldest cities – its ancient section was settled in the 4th millennium BC. Celebrating the city's history and the onset of Summer, Jerusalem is playing host to the third annual Festival of Lights – an open air sound, light and art design celebration drawing a quarter million visitors. CCTV correspondent Stephanie Freid was there..

This one is Jerusalem’s 3rd annual Festival of Lights held in the city’s Old, Walled City.

Architects, international artists, developers, performers and engineers come together each Spring to put on the week-long outdoor extravaganza – a crowd pleaser and tourism draw.

Festival Attendee, said, "I think it’s great to see all of the people here together coming to see what’s going on. I wish it was more “Jerusalem-ee” but still, I’m glad people are here."

Illusion, lit city walls, art installations and video exhibits were part of this year’s festival.

And this acrobatic, multimedia performance termed “the Butterfly Effect” relayed age old messages of dark forces battling the light and evil versus good. Pulleys, suspension, circus-like moves and of course, lighting, added to the allure.

In addition to the man-made light installations, visitors on opening night were treated to a natural wonder – a lunar eclipse. Artists from France, Portugal, Belgium, the U.S., Denmark, Italy and more contributed to the festival, creating works and exhibits conveying their personal impressions of Jerusalem.

Ovo, Creator of Pol Marchandise, said, "This is particularly symbolic here in this city because Jerusalem is so full of chaos, the egg is a symbol of rebirth and calm – the origin of beginnings. That is well known in Chinese culture, actually."

If art and light usher in calm, then for one week each year, the Old City of Jerusalem fosters that aura.

CCTV correspondent Stephanie Freid said, The festival is a mix of ancient history and modern fantasy. It’s a bit of respite from the heavy politicking this city is generally used to and for visitors and locals, it’s literally a chance to see Jerusalem in a different light.
