On the heels of his announcement of a new Afghanistan strategy, US President Barack Obama on Thursday met with troops from the US 10th Mountain Division, a unit frequently deployed in Afghanistan.

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama unveiled a plan to start bringing US troops home at a faster pace than proposed by the Pentagon. The announcement has alarmed top US brass who fear it could squander military gains. Defending his decision to draw-down troops from Afghanistan, Obama said that the US had "turned a corner" in the war-torn country. He also assured soldiers that the withdrawal would be gradual, and would not jeopardize security gains made by US troops. Despite the gains, the president warned that the "job isn't finished" in Afghanistan.

He said, "Our job is not finished. If you looked at the schedule I set forth. We are only bringing out 10,000 this year, we are going to bring out all 33,000 that we surged by next summer, but there's still some fighting to be done."
