The international day for monuments and sites has been celebrated since 1982 when it was first adopted by UNESCO. As a member, China has some of the greatest wealth of world heritage. Sustainable development is the focus this year.
This year’s international day for monuments and sites marks the 40th anniversary of the "Convention Concerning World Heritage." The convention is of particular concern for China, as it has some of the greatest wealth of world heritage sites. Preservation of those sites is the focus this year.
Vice director of ICOMOS in China, Hou Weidong, said, "Sustainable development of world heritage requires everyone to participate. We need to get everyone to realize the importance of protecting our heritage sites."
