北京机场建设启动

Beijing is to get a new airport, and construction has started today. The Civil Aviation Administration of China says the new facility is going up in the southern suburban Daxing District, bordering Hebei Province.

The airport will cost around 13 billion US dollars and take about five years to complete. It’s designed to handle 72 million passengers, 2 million tons of cargo and mail, and 620-thousand flights in 2025.

The airport is a major step in expanding Beijing’s flight capacity. It’s also aimed at promoting the integrated development of Beijing and neighboring Tianjin Municipality and Hebei Province.
