Data leaks are a big problem in the US, with widespread use of mobile internet devices and many online companies storing personal information. This year, details from a million of user accounts for Apple devices were hacked.

Each industry has its own measures to monitor and protect online data. But analysts say companies and individuals need to be more vigilant in protecting their data.

Evan Hills, Legal Fellow, George Washington University, said, "Some of them, just not asking the information you don’t really need, so if you don’t need somebody’s credit card’s number, there is no need to ask for it. There is no reason to hold it. Because if you lose it, it’s going to cost your company more money."
