保护妇女免受虐待

Friday marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The United Nations General Assembly designated November 25th for the occasion in 1999. The aim is to raise public awareness of the fact that women are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of abuse.

This date commemorates the 1960 assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, who were political activists in the Dominican Republic. Data from 2015 show around one-third of women in the world have experienced physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives.
