While many are asking "Will the world be printed in 3D?" the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is already working on the next big thing.
Forward-thinking architects give the TED Conference a sneak peak into an even more advanced manufacturing innovation - 4D Printing. The 4th dimension refers to time, and, over time, objects can evolve and adapt.
Self-folding structures will be generated by 3D printers first. The structures are made with a combination of plastic and smart materials that can absorb water. The water then acts as an energy source, allowing the material to expand once it’s printed.
