美韩开始军事演习
South Korea and the US are set to start their annual joint military drills Monday. The computer-based simulation, called Key Resolve, aims to improve the combined forces' operation and combat capabilities.
The exercise will involve about ten thousand South Korean and 3,500 US troops in testing various scenarios. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff will play a leading role in conducting operations. The DPRK is calling the drills a "hostile act" that has bolstered its defenses. The two allies are now holding the Foal Eagle joint military exercise that started on March the 1st.
The 60-day drill involves a set of land, sea and air maneuvres. It involves about 200,000 South Korean and 10,000 US troops. Since February this year, South Korea and the US have held three joint military exercises. Some analysts say the drills are intended to deter the DPRK amid the worsening situation on the Korean Peninsula.
