印度洪水造成至少174死亡
Floods in India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state have worsened, with the confirmed death toll rising to 174. Swollen waters of the River Ganga have inundated vast areas, displacing well over a million people.
Ten districts have been severely hit, with rivers flowing above danger levels in many areas. A number of villages have been completely buried, with many roads washed away.
Record rains since June have prompted one of the largest airlifts in the history of the Indian air force. Helicopters have flown hundreds of rescue missions, dropping shipments of relief materials.
Officials say more than 100,000 people have been rescued by the air force and security personnel on the ground during the past two months.
