A recent poll on the Sina.com website suggests online opinion is divided over the value of higher education.

Some are in favour of higher education, with one user saying: "My college years were the most unforgettable period in my life" and "the value of education cannot simply be judged by money".

Others felt that "learning is a life-long process" and "going to college is not the only way out".

Those who held a neutral view believed that "the quality of higher education varies with different universities so one shouldn’t make a hasty conclusion".
