The 5th China International New Media Short Film Festival has kicked off in the south China city of Shenzhen. Over a hundred short films will hit big screens in the city's cinemas and over 3,600 works have been sent up for the Kingbonn Award.

The festival has received 3,659 short films from more than 100 countries and regions, 23 of them competing for the final award.

During the ten-day event, 14 cinemas are open for short film screenings, and audiences can book tickets online.

The Kingbonn Academy is also offering lectures, forums, parties and contests. Over 300 college students have applied for the lectures. The first one, attended by David Traub, the executive producer of "Jobs", centers on the theme of film funding in an international background.

"Joining the academy, I'd like to learn some global skills, from Hollywood and other parts of the world," said Kingbonn Academy Participant Chen Zehuan.

Besides lectures, the script contest will select two out of 124 applications. The winners will get an opportunity to receive funding for scripts as well as further study in Hollywood.

"This event is a platform for creators and investors to communicate and cooperate," said Feng Wei, president of Motion Picture Association of America for China.

The award winners of the China Int'l New Media Short Film Festival will be revealed on May 19.
