美国承诺帮助营救尼日利亚失踪少女
A top official from the US State Department has reiterated Washington's willingness to assist the rescue of nearly 300 missing schoolgirls, who were kidnapped in Nigeria last month.
Speaking after holding talks with Nigerian officials in the capital Abuja, US under-secretary for civilian security, democracy and human rights, Sarah Sewall, said the United States government would be glad to extend its working relationship with Nigeria to areas of law enforcement and security. Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister welcomed the offer.
"The incident only underscores the enduring nature of the Boko Haram terrorist challenge here in Nigeria with which you have struggled and against whom the US govt wishes to support you in your efforts. Because they are very important not simply for the citizens of the north-east and throughout the country but for the international community because the scourge of Boko Haram has continued to spread to neighbouring regions." Sewall said.
"Insurgency and terrorism is not limited to a country. Terrorism and insurgency is a global issue. It does not belong to any one country. It belongs to all of us. The US historically has been the defender of democracy and human rights. Its been promoting peace and security worldwide.” Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Aminu Wali said.
