In Syria, government forces have made a significant advance after capturing the Handarat refugee camp a few kilometers north of the city of Aleppo. They had briefly seized it on Saturday, before losing it again in a rebel counter attack.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that the US is close to suspending talks with Russia on a ceasefire in Syria, as Moscow vowed to press on with an assault on Aleppo.

Media say US President Barack Obama is considering tougher measures in Syria, including military activity.
