内地电视综艺节目在台湾受欢迎
TV shows from Taiwan have long been popular with mainland audiences. But now, the entertainment is flowing both ways, with some mainland shows making a big splash across the strait. Taiwan pop stars have also been taking part in the shows.
Six months after its first run on Hunan TV, popular reality show "Where Are We Going, Dad?" is set to air on Taiwan's CTI TV.
"The show will be aired in Taiwan on June 1. We think it's going to be a big hit," said CTI TV Director Zhu Zhi'en.
It's not the only reality show drawing big audiences on the other side of the strait.
Last year, Hunan TV's "I Am A Singer" and Zhejiang TV's "The voice of China" created a big buzz in Taiwan, after they were aired at prime time.
"These TV shows draw big audiences. Take the second season of 'The voice of China' for example, it sometimes even ranked in first place," said CTI TV Director Sheng Shihua.
As mainland reality TV shows gain popularity on the island, more and more people from Taiwan are taking part.
Zhang Zhongyu is a student who majored in law at National Taiwan University. He took part in a poetry-reciting program on Hebei TV. His performance won him many fans on both sides of the strait.
"The show combines popular culture with classic Chinese culture. Before I took part in the show, my father and I used to watch it and like it very much. He encouraged me to have a try. So I did. It's a big chance for me," Zhang said.
He's not the only contestant from Taiwan. Other, more high-profile names are appearing on mainland reality shows, including some well-known celebrities.
With more popular mainland-produced shows set to hit the screens on the island, TV variety is becoming another great platform for cultural exchange between the mainland and Taiwan.
