路易威登艺术基金会暨博物馆即将开张
A new space designed by famous Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry is set to open soon in Paris. The Louis Vuitton Foundation art museum and cultural center will offer visitors an array of activities, including a permanent art collection, temporary exhibitions and concerts.
The building, covered in 12 glass sails, stretches over 11 thousand square meters and has been compared to an iceberg or a large vessel. The project cost more than 100 million euros.
"Once we talked about the double skin, the glass and 'iceberg'," Gehry said. "I liked the idea of a living facade that changed, not only with the light and everything, because of the glass and the shadows, but also the ability to actually light it differently and have fun with it, and actually invite artists to participate in the facade."
Gehry has designed major buildings over the past 40 years, primarily in the United States and Europe, including the famous Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.
"I'm an architect, so I don't presume to make sculpture," Gehry said. "The lines between architecture and sculpture in today's world have become very defined. So I don't want to argue with anybody about what's what. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, finally. You call it what you want."
The Louis Vuitton Foundation museum will open to the public on October 27th.
