波兰准备向基辅提供武器
Senior Russian, Ukrainian, German and French officials are set to meet in Berlin on Friday, for talks on the tension in Eastern Ukraine. However, amid wide support for a ceasefire, Poland's security chief says it's ready to supply Kiev's army with weapons. Earlier, we talked to our correspondent Guy Henderson in Berlin.
The four-way talks will be a chance to look ahead to the mid-and long-term, for axample, there will be discussions around the idea of regional elections in eastern Ukraine as well as the concept of increasingly amout of autonomy for rebel-held areas. But making any of those designs a reality looks some way off. Here in Berlin on Thursday, both the Polish and German foreign ministers continued to back the ceasefire deal struck three weeks ago in Minsk. But back in Poland, the head of the National Security Office in Warsaw says it's time for the next stage - sending weapons to Ukraine's army in an effort to prevent the conflict from escalating. So far, Poland has said it would not supply weapons to Ukraine, but says Kiev could make purchases from Polish arms producers. The Germans are incredibly keen to avoid it, but certainly now there is growing pressure for new ideas on the diplomatic front.
