南非在非洲青年锦标赛的金牌数占主导地位

South Africa bagged 17 gold medals and ended the Africa Youth Athletics Championships with 29 total medals. Kenya grabbed eight golds while Nigeria took two to finish third despite arriving at the championships a day late. This was the second edition of the event.

After four days of competition South Africa leaves the Maryse Justin stadium happies of the countries competing at this years Africa youth championships in athletics. The country winning titles across track and field events to emerge overall winner.

Taylon Bliedt added the 4000m hurdles gold medal to her 100m hurdles title while Nicola de Bruyn and Gift Tiolthiso competed the sprint double. Pierre Veermark won gold in the walk.

Kenya won medals in their middle and long distance specialities but it was Vincent Kilel's 15.04m jump to win goldin the step and jump that stood out for the East African running nation.

"I took interest in the triple jump because my father competed in the event and even became a national champion," said Vincent Kilel, triple jump champion.

Rwanda, Botswana, Senegal, Namibia and hosts Mauritius also won gold medals on the last day. Mauritius won gold in the Octathlon.

For many athletes win or lose the competition has taught them valuable lessons for building their careers.

For now the victors take time to savour their achievements but on returning home there won't be much time to rest as preparations begin in for the world youth championships set for Colombia later this year.
