Today is Mother's Day, an occasion to show appreciation to mothers all over the world. Although it has its roots in the West, the celebration is just as popular here in China, in a culture that values filial piety.

Though it remains an unofficial holiday in most parts of the world, people do try to find all possible ways to express their love to their mothers, whether it's through a symbolic gesture or a practical gift.

Guangzhou's shopping malls have gone all out to entice customers with their best sales pitches. Let's see what people across the age groups have decided on.

"We don't know what the love of a mother is like until we become a mother ourselves. My mom goes to great lengths to take care of my child. I bought her health supplements. I wish her good health," said a woman.

"I want to buy her a blood pressure monitor, these are easy for her to use," said a man.

"I bought my mom those carnations after school, I want to wish her Happy Mother's Day," said a girl.

"I drew my Mother's Day card for my mom, wishing her happiness and health," said a girl.
