全国开展预防地震演习

Today is China's 7th annual National Disaster Prevention and Reduction day. It marks the day that the devastating earthquake hit the southwestern province of Sichuan and neighbouring Gansu and Shaanxi provinces on May 12th, 2008.

A series of drills are carried out nationwide to raise people's awareness of disaster prevention and self-rescue. In a village southwest of Beijing that was decimated by a 2012 landslide, a team with 60 specialists in charge of dealing with emergencies runs drills.

In Jintan city in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu, emergency evacuation practices are carried out in schools twice a year. In Jinchang city in the northwestern province of Gansu, drills are run to cope with earthquakes.
