Just west of Hong Kong, Southern China's special administrative region of Macao is also on high alert against MERS.

Authorities are searching for a South Korean tourist who is believed to have come in contact with a MERS patient before traveling to Macao.

The individuals has yet to be found. The local health authority has set up an emergency team to handle any potential outbreak, and Macao officials are advising residents to avoid traveling to South Korea.
