用户对手机中无法删除的APP感到愤怒

The Shanghai Consumer Council has filed lawsuits against two cellphone makers -- China's OPPO and South Korea's Samsung -- for installing too many apps that consumers can't remove from their phones. The council says consumers have a right to know what apps are on their phone, and how much data they use.

The city's No. 1 Intermediate People's Court says it has already accepted the two lawsuits. And that is the first time a Shanghai court has accepted a suit concerning consumer interests from the Consumer Council. The council says it checked about 20 popular smart phones earlier this year, and found two brands, OPPO and Samsung, pre-installed a large number of apps. One model of OPPO came with 70 apps, and 47 can't be removed. The two cellphone producers haven't said why they install so many apps or how much data they consume. The council says that hinders consumers rights to make an informed choice.

"We hope lawsuits for individual products can act as a model, to break the unreasonable act of cellphone makers that pre-launch unremovable apps on the phones and don't explain to buyers," said Tao Ailian, from Shanghai Consumer Council.

Most phone makers pre-install some apps, which can help them earn money from the developers. But consumers say many are not useful.

"My phone has over 10 pre-launched apps, I cannot remove them and they are not useful to me. They use a lot of memory. If the brand can explain that on the package, at least I can learn about it before buying," said a consumer named Xing Lifeng.

"I don't care what kind of apps were already installed in the phone, anyway I will find a way to delete them all, it will just take you some time to do it," said a consumer named Dong Huan.

The Shanghai Consumer Council says it wants the two phone producers to print information about pre-installed apps on packaging, and make them removable. The two phone makers haven't responded to the suits so far.

Last year, South Korea required that all the pre-installed smart-phone apps must be removable, unless they are necessary for functions such as Wi-Fi connection.
