无国界医生组织要求美国对空袭阿富汗医院做出解释

The medical aid group Medicins Sans Frontieres, also known as Doctors Without Borders, says it is hard to believe the US strike on an Afghan hospital last month was a mistake.

The group's chief presented an internal report on the incident Thursday and told reporters they are still waiting for an explanation from the US military.

"The view from inside the hospital is that this attack was conducted with the purpose to kill and destroy and this was certainly my impression when I was in Kunduz two weeks ago,” said Christopher Stokes, general director of Doctor Without Borders.

“Let me be clear: we were absolutely treating wounded combatants and we were treating wounded combatants that were both government and opposition. And the patient is a patient, we don't choose our patients. If they are present at the hospital they will be treated and treating wounded combatant is not a crime.

“Being a doctor in the war zone cannot be punishable by air strike."

MSF says at least 30 people, including 13 staff members and three children, were killed in the US strike on the hospital in Kunduz October 3. The report says many staff described "seeing people being shot, most likely from the plane" as they tried to flee.

The hospital is a Doctors Without Borders medical compound. The group says the site's location had been clearly communicated to both Afghan forces and the Taliban and it was clearly identifiable as a hospital.

Two separate investigations by the US and NATO are underway.
