“天河二号”获全球超算六连冠
China's Tianhe-2 supercomputer has won first place at the International Supercomputing Conference held in the city of Austin in the United States.
Tianhe-2, or Milky Way2, won with a performance of 33.86 petaflops per second. It was almost twice as fast as the runner-up, Titan from the US Department of Energy. This is the sixth consecutive event that the supercomputer has finished with the top speed since its creation in June of 2013.
It was developed by China's National University of Defense Technology and is stationed at the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou.
"We feel very proud to claim the title for the sixth consecutive time. At the same time, we also feel the pressure and responsibility. The Ministry of Science and Technology has supported this project from Tianhe-1 to Tianhe-2 for a decade, a span of two five-year plans. It bears great strategic significance," Lu Yutong with National University of Defense Technology said.
"The Tianhe-2 system has dominated for two and a half years now... It's amazing in that regard," Bernd Mohr, senior scientist of Juelich Supercomputing Center, said.
