中俄有潜力的能源合作
Moscow and Beijing are continuing to strengthen business ties following a multi-billion dollar deal signed earlier this month. A three-day energy forum called "Exploration, Production, Processing" is taking place in Moscow.
As winter sets in, Russian and Chinese officials and company representatives are meeting in Moscow for an energy forum between the two countries. Oil and gas exploration and technologies are at the heart of the discussion. The Russian government has been keen to diversify its energy customer base since tensions with the West rose over Ukraine.
“We have a huge potential for collaboration – first of all in terms of exploration of resources in East Siberia and the Far East, which was not in demand in the last decade,” said Anatoly Yanovsky, Russian Deputy Energy Minister.
Russia’s economy is in downturn after EU and U.S. imposed sanctions and the global fall of oil prices. But He Zhenwei of the China Overseas Development Association is convinced there is a great opportunity to do business with Russia.
“I think that it’s the best time for the energy sector between China and Russia. Although it's very difficult right now, everyone knows that the price of oil is falling, I believe this is a temporary phenomenon, not a permanent one,” he said.
The Russian deputy energy minister stressed the importance of infrastructure and transport for the energy sector between Russia and China in particular to Sibera and the Far East. He also mentioned that both governments are doing everything to help initiatives in the energy sector develop.
Earlier this year, Russia and China have signed a US$25billion deal – allowing Chinese to lend to Russian companies. In 2014 the two countries agreed that Russia would supply nearly 40 billion cubic meters of gas a year to China. The deal is worth US$400 billion and is meant to last for 30 years.
Today’s discussions are a continuation of the growing partnership between these two countries in the energy sector – that suits both neighbors. Russia – because of its production of energy, and China because of its great demand.
