阿根廷主帅马蒂诺宣布辞职
Argentina's national team is in a bit of turmoil. This after captain Lionel Messi quit the side. He is not the only departure from the team, as the head coach Gerardo Martino has also left the Albiceleste. His decision comes a month before Argentina is set to participate at the Olympic tournament.
Argentina's football association released a statement claiming Martino said he and his coaching staff have quit due to management disputes with the body and because of difficulties in getting the squad together in time for the Olympics.
This crisis within the national squad has shown how squabbles within the AFA have affected Argentina's favourite sport.
This latest blow comes less than two weeks after Messi said he was quitting the side after missing the penalty in the shootout against Chile in the Copa America final. Argentina also lost to Chile in the final last year, also on penalties. That loss, prompted the national team captain to say he will never play for his country again. Argentina have gone 23 years without a major title.
