The president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach landed in the host city for the Summer Games, Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday. His first order of business was to visit the Olympic Village where claims of poor living conditions earlier this week turned into an embarrassment for the organizers.

129 delegations, out of 206 that are expected to take part in the Games, have already registered, and 2,000 people have taken residence in the village. Competitors from Argentina and Australia temporarily decamped to hotels after encountering problems in their apartments including lack of water, faulty plumbing and exposed wires. Bach played down the problems, saying he enjoyed a "very good visit". Bach also stopped by Rio's Olympic Boulevard where fans will gather at the official Live Site during the Games. The area will be open for fans and non-ticket holders to watch the action, along with a series of live concerts and entertainment.

"I was speaking today with the athletes and the team leaders in the Olympic Village. And they showed me their apartments, and they told me how it looked yesterday and how pleased they are with the apartments 24 hours after and how pleased they are now with the living conditions in the Olympic Village. And this makes everybody very confident that the remaining ones will be solved in the next 24 or 48 hours," Bach said.
