动词call惯用法小知识

1. call 是一个多义词，有时在没有上下文的情况下可能有歧义，如 call sb 就可表示“呼唤某人”“叫醒某人”“打电话给某人”等。如：

Hang on! I’ll call him. 别挂电话！我去叫他。

Call me if I don’t wake up in time. 如果到时我没醒的话，请叫醒我。

On reaching the airport she called me up. 抵达机场时她给我打了一个电话。

2. 比较以下正误句型（误句多为受汉语习惯影响）：

这个东西用英语怎么说？

正：What do you call this in English?

正：How do you say this in English?

误：How do you call this in English?

他名叫李华。

正：His name is Li Hua. / He is called Li Hua.

误：His name is called Li Hua.

3. 比较以下各句call与名词name搭配的用法：

He called her name. 他喊某人的名字。

It’s wrong call names. 骂人是不对的。

The teacher called out the children’s names. 老师大声点名（如考勤等）。

4. 表示看望或拜访某人，后接介词 on 或upon；表示到某地拜访，后接介词 at。如：

I was going to call on you yesterday. 我本打算昨天去看你来着。

He called at John’s office this afternoon. 他今天下午到约翰的办公室去拜访了他。

有时可在 call 后用副词 in, round 等。如：

We could call in on Patrick on the way to your mother’s. 我们到你母亲家去，不妨顺路到帕特里克家串个门儿。

另外，表示看望某人，有时还可后接 to see 或 and see。如：

I’ll call in and see you soon. 我不久就会来看你。

He was out when I call (round) to see him. 我去拜访他时，他不在家。

5. 用于 call on [upon] sb to do sth, 意为叫或号召某人做某事。如：

The teacher called on me to answer the question. 老师叫我回答问题。

The government called on the workers to oppose waste. 政府号召工人反对浪费。

6. 表示给某人或某地打电话，英语用 call (up) a person or a place, 注意不要按汉语习惯在call后加介词to。比较：

At last we decided to call (up) Mr Black(‘s office). 最后我们决定给布莱克先生（的办公室）打电话。

有时见到call (out) to sb这样的搭配，它指的是大声对某人喊。如：

He called out to his father for help. 他向他的父亲大声呼救。
