哪些副词可用作表语

在通常情况下，用作表语要用形容词，不用副词。但是，英语中有少数副词也可以用作表语，这类副词主要是表地点的副词以及某些与介词同形的副词。如：

Is Mary in? 玛丽在家吗?

I must be off now. 我得走了。

The book is there. 那书就在那儿。

The war is over. 战争结束了。

He isn’t up yet. 他还没起床。

Two trees are down. 吹倒了两棵树。

The taxi is outside. 出租车在外面。

The grocery was below. 杂货店在下面。

Are the children back yet? 孩子们回来了吗?

He hid the money when nobody was by. 附近没人时他把钱藏了起来。

注意，这类副词通常只用于连系动词be 后作表语，而不用于其他连系动词后作表语，如：

正：He is here. / He is abroad.

误：He seems here. / He seems abroad.

个别引申用法除外。如：

I feel down today. 我今天情绪很低沉。

He looks awfully down. 他显得情绪很低。
